Projects

In addition to our usual services, the Hotham Mission Asylum Seeker Project will sometimes run special projects to aid in fundraising or to address new challenges which may arise in our area of responsibility.

RUN MELBOURNE 2012
The Age Run Melbourne is back!
This year Hotham Mission ASP will be entering a team of runners, joggers and walkers to raise a targeted $10,000 for people seeking asylum in the community.
The annual fun-run will be held on Sunday, 15 July offering participants a half-marathon (22kms), a 10km run and a 5km run or walk starting and finishing at Federation Square.
All funds raised will be used to support and empower vulnerable people who are seeking asylum through Basic Living Assistance (BLA) payments,  food vouchers for Coles and Woolworths, material aid and emergency relief.

If you would like to show your support and make a donation, go to http://runmelbourne.everydayhero.com.au/hothammissionasylumseekerproject.

If you are interested in participating in the event and want to join the team, or want to help out at the marquee on the day, contact Soumia at soumia.asp@hothammission.org.au for more details.

URGENT APPEAL FOR HOUSING
Hotham Mission ASP is currently experiencing rapid expansion in our
client base due to an increase in the number of people being transferred from closed detention facilities. Whilst we welcome this move – we have been advocating for an end to mandatory detention for many years – the hundreds of people being released onto bridging visas is an added pressure on our already strained resources. There is an increasing need for housing to shelter those who would otherwise be homeless in our community. While agencies and service providers work together to provide safe and secure housing for clients during this period of growth and development, the community will have a major role to play in the transition. If you have a house that could be donated, please call us urgently on (03) 9326 8343 for a discussion with no obligations.
