UCHM Update – Bikes Over Lunch Time is Underway

Please note that UCHM is no longer delivering BOLT in partnership with Southport UnitingCare. For more information about this program please contact Southport directly

The Bikes Over Lunch Time (BOLT) program began its pilot in week one, Term 3.  It will run weekly on a Tuesday out of Kensington Primary School and provides an intensive mentoring and development opportunity for 8 boys in years 5 and 6 who are at risk of disengaging from school.  Hotham Mission is partnering with South Port Uniting Care to design and deliver the program.  So far, the kids have enjoyed a variety of games and character building activities, in addition to bike restorations and presentations from Victoria Police.

The pilot will run into term 4 with the same group of boys and will work on key development areas such as self-esteem, violence in the home and school environments, healthy relationships, decision-making processes, consequences for actions, positive role models, peer support, engagement in school and extra-curricular activities and many more.  The program will focus on building the capacity of these young boys to reengage and forge positive relationships with learning, the school environment and their peers, in preparation for high school and later life.

If you would like further information on this program or any of the Hotham Mission programs, please contact Beth.
