UnitingCare Hotham Mission Update
Bikes Over Lunch Time Program Update
The first Bikes Over Lunch Time program is confirmed to commence at Kensington Primary School on Tuesday 14/7/15 and will run every Tuesday at lunch times for the term. The intention is that the program will run for two terms with the same children so as to maximise the impact for the students involved. Hotham Mission has contributed half of the initial set up costs, the rest is funded by UnitingCare South Port through a government grant. A student placement has been engaged and will oversee the monitoring of the program and conduct case study research. All parties participating in the program pilot have expressed great enthusiasm at attending.
The Bikes Over Lunch Time initiative is targeted at upper Primary students who are identified by their teachers as disengaging from education and their community. The program equips students with basic bicycle maintenance skills, sports coaching, and mentors them through the process of re-engagement, including anger management and learning to effectively articulate their frustrations and confusions.
